Some of our favourite shows are drawing to a close, and darn it all if I am not feeling the TV summer drought all ready.  The highlights included a pigeon, and the idea of the internet being forever (very ominous), but the low points were somewhere in The Middle.  Did your shows make the cut?  Read and find out.

Modern Family: (ABC)SEASON FINALE.... though there was plenty of laughs (Mitchell vs. Pigeon being the highlight) in last night's episode, it was more heart warming than anything else.  The family picture turned into a mud fight, but it made for one the best family portraits and a fitting ending.  It will be a long summer, but this comedy is worth the wait.

Criminal Minds: (CBS) Nothing like Criminal Minds putting a damper on social networking.  This hour of drama was disturbing, informative and left me reconsidering my twitter account.  Needless to say it was a great hour of television, one where Garcia got her hacking mo-jo on and Reed got an adorable hair cut.

The Good Guys: (Fox)  The way this show is edited is something you have to get used to.  It is sporadic, but fast paced.  While Colin Hanks and Bradley Witford have some chemistry, the overall premise of the is questionable.  There were some funny moments and it is the pilot, so I will give it two more episodes to really capture my interest.

And the Misses....

American Idol: (FOX) Even if America got it right by sending Casey home, it wasn’t enough to save the hour long results show last night.   Yes, and I do mean Justin Bieber was not entertaining.  I am not a teenage girl, so that sort of music is not even on my radar, and neither was Perez Hilton’s latest find.  Really?  Travis Garland is better than Justin Timberlake?  Dream on Perez.

The Middle (ABC) not even Betty White could save this episode.  And in case you missed it, the writers may have pinched a few lines from a past Gilmore Girl episode.  Sorry Sue, but Rory Gilmore is the one who could ever be hit by a deer and make it funny.

Tuesday Night's Hits & Misses (May 18th 2010)

Essentially, there were four standout hits last night and one rather painful miss.  I can honestly say that a little bit of Glee, a good Wife and some the Aliens ruled the night while it is clear that there more than a few missed notes last night.  Did your show make the cut?  Read and find out.

The Three Standout Hits...

Glee: (FOX)  Joss Whedon directed it, and Neil Patrick Harris and Idina Menzel sang some awesome renditions of “Dream On” and “I Dream a Dream”...’nuff said.

The Good Wife: (CBS)  When you have an episode called “Hybristophilia” you know you are in for something special.  Mr. Sweeney’s return as the sexually twisted client of Alicia only adds to her problems as her husband finally received the freedom he deserved...well not deserved but he is free.

V: (ABC) As season finales go, this one delivered some definite twists and turns.  Now it wasn’t explosive, or a full blown fight between aliens and humans, but there was some definite plot movement.  The highlight had to be Anna experiencing her first human emotion: unadulterated rage.  Erica destroying almost all Anna’s eggs was a close second.  There were enough twists, new allegiances made, and an apocalyptic ending that will make the season two opener worth the wait.

Parenthood: (NBC) for those families who live with a child or family member who suffers from an Autism Spectrum disorder than this episode would pull and you hearts strings in both good and bad ways.  The moment at the end between Adam and Max was heartbreaking, but I am glad that the creators of the show tackled the issue in a respectful and informative manner.  This episode was an hour of pure family dynamic and heartache and I am in amazement how truly wonderful this show is.  GO TEAM BRAVERMAN!

The definite Miss...

America Idol: (Fox) From the song choices to the ‘banter’ between the judges, last night was just painful.  The only song that was even remotely entertaining was Lee’s "Hallelujah" ;however, that came at the end of what seemed to be the most snooze worthy song choices from not only the contestants but the judges.  I hope Casey is voted off, and then Crystal and Lee can bring the big guns for the finale.

Season finale’s are in full swing, but in the mix a comedy delivered the goods.  And it case you haven’t heard...Huddy fans around the world are rejoicing!  Did your show make the cut?  Read and find out.

House: (Fox)  In the midst of a harrowing crane disaster, and House’s constant struggle with personal redemption,  there really are only three little words that need to be said: ..Huddy...Finally...Happened.

The Big Bang Theory: (CBS) A journey back in time to Sheldon and Leonard’s first meeting was both hilarious and priceless.  From the inception of the roommate agreement, to how the elevator got broken, this comedy was just fabulous.  I have eternal dibbs of loving this show for quite some time!

Castle: (ABC)  Not the best hour of the show, especially for a season finale.  The ‘will they, won’t they’ between Castle and Beckett is still a go for next season, but the way things ended left Beckett rather alone.  Maybe she deserved it, but it felt a little forced and lopsided.  It was enjoyable though...and no major characters died or got blown up, a nice change of pace.

And the Standout Miss...

Gossip Girl: (CW)  There is a high chance that I am expecting far too much from this television show, but asking for a bit of a plot (not plot devices) and for some actual character growth should not be that big of a deal.  Sure, I am happy Jenny got voted off the island, but Chuck getting shot was just downright ridiculous and Georgina showing up pregnant with what she claims is Dan's baby was just too cliched.  Better luck next year.

Last night was a smorgazborg of Television goodness!  The center piece to the feast of course included  two season finales for the CW and a delectible hour of Bones.  There were some shows that were definite misses, and one season finale that was just plain wrong.  Did your show make the cut?  Read and find out!

**Vampire Diaries & Parks and Recreation sections written by Krista Gilby

The Hits just keep on coming....

Bones: (FOX) In the penultimate episode of the season the team had a showdown with the Grave Digger, Taffet, in the courtroom.  It was a thrilling court case, and in the end leaves us wondering if Brennan has had enough of the murder part of her job.

The Vampire Diaries was definitely a hit this week. This season finale episode did not disappoint, exceeding expectations the whole time. This episode contained it all: murder, deceit, an unexpected kiss and the return of Katherine. The only thing that was disappointing about this episode was when it finished, leaving the realization that we have to wait months until we can find out what happens next.

Supernatural: (CW)This was a hit.  There were enough twists turns to make my head spin!  Nothing like a good apocolypse to bring out the big guns for the finale and the overall accumulation of the horseman rings, Sam sacrificing himself, and wanting his brother to live a ‘apple pie’ kind of life, made for a good hour of television.  My only complaint would be that it felt like a series finale more than a season finale.  Ah well, still a great end of the season!

Mentalist: (CBS) It was a marginal hit.  The interplay between Jane and Kristine was the highlight of the episode as the writers did a fantastic job drawing a fine line between believing and discrediting psychic powers.  The overall case is not that interesting and I wish the topic of human trafficking was handled a little better.

Hit and Miss

Parks and Recreations was both a hit and a miss. There was the usual Parks and Rec satire, but unfortunately it was in short supply. There were few signature “Leslie Lines” and practically no Gerry-Hating moments. On the plus, the character plots of Ann and Tom were moved along with Ann finally breaking it off with Mark and Tom set for a date with a bartender he met. Overall, though entertaining, the episode was not in top form.

30 Rock: (NBC) was both a hit and a miss because while it was a fun episode; it wasn’t that funny.  Wesley is exceedingly annoying and Liz’s love life has been a focus for the show for too long now.  Either get her a love interest that isn’t annoying, or just let her be alone.

Grey’s Anatomy: (ABC) it was both a hit and a miss because while it was full of the typical and enjoyable Grey’s angst, some good guest appearances (Demi Lovato) and had great friendship moments between Meredith and Cristina, there was something missing from this episode.  It felt like another episode set up for the finale.  Set up is fine, but there should be more substance at this point in the season.

And the Misses...

Community: (NBC)Even with the weird play on Good Will Hunting, this episode fell rather flat.  Annie ratted out Chang and now they have might have to repeat a whole year of Spanish.  I guess this is the type of show that you either love it or you hate it, and there is just no in between area.

Private Practice: (ABC) SEASON FINALE!  What does television have against Chris Lowell?  First Veronica Mars, and now this?  I cannot believe that Dell died!  May Sweeps is known for deaths, but needless deaths I just hate.  There was no reason whatsoever to kill Dell off.  The writers could have written him off the show by him going to medical school, but rather they just killed him as an emotional play.  The whole episode was rather irksome and everyone seemed to be matched up at the end with their intended loves.  I think I would have preferred a cliffhanger.

CSI: (CBS) Even if the episode is called “Doctor Who” it still was still not worth the watch.  Ray goes rogue and tries to track down the Jekyll serial killer on his own.  He seems to be rather obsessive with the case which leads to an hour long “I will catch the killer” rampage.  It just wasn’t up to CSI standards.

We are in May Sweeps right?  Hard to tell after last night's TV line up.  There wasn't much to sink your teeth into, but there were a few noteworthy hits and misses.  Did your show make the cut?  Read and find out.
The Standout Hit...

Modern Family: (ABC) The whole family heads to Hawaii to celebrate Jay’s birthday.  The episode is a cavalcade of hilarious moments from Phil trying to give Claire a long lost honeymoon to Mitchell and Cameron constantly losing Lily.  It is a hilarious half an hour of television that cements this comedy as one the year’s best.

Both a Hit and a Miss.....

Criminal Minds (CBS) The team heads to Alaska to hunt down a serial killer in a small town community.  Though it is interesting seeing the team out of their natural environment and high tech gear, the Un-sub this time around isn’t really that interesting and Penelope walking outside, at night to go fix the satellite when there is a killer on the loose is just plain ridiculous.

American Idol: (FOX) Fantasia?  Oh come on...that ship has sailed, suck, resurfaced, and sunk again! Stop bringing one of the worst winners in Idol history back (Taylor Hicks holds the position as the worst winner).   What made it a mild hit iss the fact that Big Mike was sent home and Daughtry, I can’t get enough of Daughtry.

The Misses...

America’s Next Top Model: (CW) I felt badly for those people on that plane who had to sit through, what had to be the worst challenge-using a plane as a runway- on Top Model history.  Then they had to personify the art of ugly-pretty and it seems Krista and Raina won that round.  What makes this a miss is that Raina had no chance of winning since the judges have adored Krista over the last five episodes.

The Middle: (ABC) This comedy is rather clunky in its delivery as is the story line last night.  Women everywhere can sympathize with husbands or partners not being able to get social cues, but the overall effect was rather lost.  Reverend Tim-Tom and his guitar weren’t very comical.

Happy Town: (ABC) Three strikes and you are out!  I did give this series a chance, three weeks worth, and I have to say that it did not get any better.  The show just doesn’t work, and there isn’t’ enough mystery and reveal to keep me coming back for more.
